Oistins Festival, which was shelved for the last two years due to the pandemic, is back this Easter from April 15 to 18 with a simplified version, where people can still enjoy certain activities within the scope of the COVID-19 protocols.
Dubbed “Simply Oistins” this year, the popular festival will still feature favourites like the Fish Boning and Dolphin Skinning Contests, Easter Bonnet Competition, Strong Man Boat Pull, Fish Cake Eating Contest, Egg and Spoon Race, Greasy Pole Contest, Celebrity Cook Off, the U.S. Embassy sponsored Mobile Cinema and more.
Chair of the Oistins Festival Committee, Toni Thorne said that everyone had felt the effects of the pandemic. She added that they had sadly lost Committee members and participating businesses, and prospective sponsorship had also been affected.
Despite those challenges, they still wanted to have a presence during Easter 2022.
“The festival has always been synonymous with Easter and we want to keep it that way, especially at this time when signals of renewal and hope are needed,” she explained.
“With the permission and endorsement of key stakeholders and Government departments, we shall be hosting a softer version of the festival. Under the theme “Simply Oistins”, the 2022 Oistins Festival will maintain the key events and promises to be enjoyable for all participating,” Thorne confirmed.
In addition to the planned activities, Oistins Festival will also feature a variety of vendors, including local artisans and well know food stalls. (PR/SAT)
