Holder wants to up the ante

Jason Holder has a simple goal in mind as he prepares for his return to the West Indies side after missing the home series against Bangladesh.

Fully rejuvenated, the lanky Barbadian all-rounder now wants to work on becoming a more consistent performer for the Caribbean side.

Holder was named on Sunday in the Windies 13-member squad for a series of three One-day Internationals against India starting on Friday, after he was rested for the matches against the Bangladeshis “to help manage his workload as one of the West Indies all-format players”.

“What has plagued me personally and West Indies cricket for however long is just that consistency,” he told Midweek Sport in a wide-ranging interview. “I am just ready, and I am going to be extra hard on myself to be consistent.

“To just try to wake up every day and try to replicate a solid performance, and I think that is where I want to push my game. I want to hold myself more accountable and to a higher standard to achieve what I want to achieve in terms of being a really dependable and reliable cricketer to play for West Indies.” (AR)
