Williams and Jones return home

Two of Barbados’ sporting heroes are home.

Commonwealth Games champion and record holder Sada Williams, along with Commonwealth bronze medallist Jonathan Jones touched down at the Grantley Adams International Airport about 1:05 p.m. on Wednesday.

Williams, the world bronze medallist, who elevated Barbados to unprecedented heights this summer by becoming the island’s greatest ever female athlete, and Jones were the first passengers to disembark a Jet Blue flight from John F. Kennedy airport in New York.

They were greeted on the tarmac by a contingent of Government officials led by Minister of Sport, Charles Griffith.

Neil Murrell, director of sport at the National Sports Council, Pan American gold and double silver medallist Amber Joseph, and President of the Barbados Olympic Association (BOA), Sandra Osborne were also in attendance.

Joseph arrived in the island last week.

A motorcade and news conference, as well as a reception this evening at the Prime Minister’s official residence, Ilaro Court are also part of the celebrations.
