WI blast Bangladesh

ROSEAU – West Indies followed up explosive batting led by Rovman Powell and compatriot Brandon King with tidy bowling to earn a 35-run win over Bangladesh in the second Twenty20 International yesterday in Dominica.

Powell blasted two fours and six sixes in the top score of 61 not out off only 28 balls and fellow Jamaican King gathered 57 from 43 balls that included seven fours and one six, and the Windies posted 193 for five after they chose to bat on a slow Windsor Park pitch.

Left-arm pacer Obed McCoy grabbed two wickets off successive balls in his first over – the second over of the chase – and derailed the Bangladeshis early, and though Shakib Al Hasan smashed 68 not out from 52 balls they were never seriously in the hunt.

The result meant that West Indies head into the final T20I of the three-match series on Thursday at the Guyana National Stadium with a 1-0 lead, after the first T20I on Saturday, also at Windsor Park, ended in a no-result because of rain. (AR)
