Vaccine rule lifted for One-day series

Cricket fans attending the three-match One-day International series between West Indies and New Zealand at Kensington Oval will not have to be vaccinated to see the action.

The green light for all patrons to enter irrespective of their vaccination status was given by Cricket West Indies (CWI) to local cricket authorities yesterday after a lengthy meeting.

It comes as ticket sales for the first match today have only gone moderately, the Barbados Cricket Association’s (BCA) manager of marketing and communications, Steven Leslie, told the Midweek Nation yesterday.

The other matches are Friday and Sunday.

Leslie explained that the decision to allow all fans into the Oval was not surprising, since that position had been taken by CWI in a recent series against Bangladesh (Dominica, St Lucia and Guyana), India (Trinidad and Dominica), and the just concluded T-20s in Jamaica against the Kiwis.

“Cricket West Indies informed us that that (vaccination requirement) would not be part and parcel of what we’re doing now, so in a nutshell, fans can pack their bags, purchase their tickets and come into the stadium,” he said. (BA)
