Several Barbadian athletes who competed at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England, are back on home soil.
They arrived home yesterday afternoon in two batches to little or no fanfare around 1:20 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. on Virgin Atlantic and British Airways flights.
Members of the Barbados Olympic Association (BOA), including general manager Glyne Clarke and senior officer administrator Gail Craig-Archer were on hand to congratulate them.
Competitors from athletics, squash, cricket, netball, boxing, table tennis, gymnastics, badminton and squash, along with deputy chef de mission Craig Archer, filed through the departure lounge at the Grantley Adams International Airport to kisses and hugs from family members and close friends.
Gymnast Erin Pinder, who created history by becoming the first Barbadian to compete in the discipline for Barbados at the Games, squash plate silver medallist Shawn Simpson, jumper Nathan Crawford-Wallis, boxers Charles Cox and Kimberly Gittens and squash players Amanda Harewood and Meagan Best were among the returning delegation.
