Judge: Help the youth avoid prison

High Court Judge Justice Carlisle Greaves says the State’s resources will be better spent in retooling the education system to prevent young black men from ending up in prison.

He said more money should be spent in remedial education so that many youngsters do not end up leaving school without any certification.

“Even when we invest in education, we invest not in the correct way. I think we should be investing a lot of resources in remedial programmes,” the judge declared.

“When you look through these files you see a lot of these gentlemen who come in here dropping out of school in Form 3. No certification. A man could be so dumb that he can’t get any certificates at all?
