Don’t expect TV-style forensics, judge tells jurors

Jurors have been warned not to expect NCIS or CSI-type forensic evidence, as the Forensic Sciences Centre remains largely inoperable.

Justice Laurie-Ann Smith-Bovell gave the caution as she welcomed new jurors to the No. 4 Supreme Court yesterday. She told them what they saw on television was just that – television.

“Do not expect to see any great level of scientific or forensic data or information in this court or any of the courts in Barbados. We have limited capabilities in this 166 square miles.

“So you will not find gunshot residue. I have never seen it yet. You might get some forensic evidence depending on whether that evidence was analysed before the lab stopped working,” she said. (HLE)
