The bank teller who flattened a pensioner’s account, his accomplice who put a hit out on the woman, as well as the former drug addict who was enlisted to shoot her, were all jailed when they reappeared in the No. 4 Supreme Court yesterday.
However, Justice Laurie-Ann Smith-Bovell has urged lawmakers to relook the Penal System Reform Act to allow for suspended sentences for firearm offences “in very special circumstances”.
Businessman Kirk St Clair White, of Jackson Main Road, St Michael, and Kevin DaCosta Cadogan, of Arthur’s Seat, St Thomas, had pleaded guilty, at an earlier Session of the Continuous Sittings, to stealing $290 000 belonging to the proceeds of a Bank of Nova Scotia draft, dated August 12, 2011, payable to RBTT Bank for $290 000 belonging to the Bank of Nova Scotia, on August 12, 2011.
They had also each pleaded guilty to stealing $22 960 belonging to the Bank of Nova Scotia between August 1, 2011 and October 31, 2011, and engaging in money laundering in that they each directly engaged in transactions totalling $312 960 being the proceeds of crime, between August 1 and October 31, 2011.
