Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes has warned Barbadians about grabbing at “deals”, saying it was that habit that was fuelling the actions of thieves.
His comments came as he dealt with Jason Omar Greaves, who admitted he bought a tablet, which turned out to have been stolen.
“Many years ago a former commissioner . . . Mr Darwin Dottin told the press that too many civilians are supporting criminal activity by this same behaviour that you exhibited,” the chief magistrate told the first-time offender.
“Go in establishments so that you would know if the police turn up that you will be able to give the police legitimate documentation. But all of you looking for deals. That is what is happening, and you all don’t know where . . . people are getting these things from.” (HLE)
