Accused’s pleas fail to help him

Loud protestations and a change of plea when he learnt he was being sent to Dodds Prison made no difference to where Neverlaine Rohan Oneal Springer will be sleeping for the next 28 days.

And in that time, he will get a court-ordered psychological evaluation.

Springer had just spent at least 20 minutes venting in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court about the troubled relationship he shared with his former girlfriend, who was also the mother of his child, as he sought to explain why he had beaten her at her workplace last month.

The 41-year-old auto detailer, of 3rd Avenue, Long Gap, Spooners Hill, St Michael, had initially pleaded guilty to assaulting Princess Safiya Browne occasioning her actual bodily harm; assaulting her and damaging her car, all on July 31. (HLE)
