Youth to review draft national policy

Scores of young people are being tasked with reviewing the draft National Youth Policy 2022 to 2027.

During a consultation ceremony held at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre this morning, Minister of Youth Charles Griffith said it was important to give young people a chance to have a say in a policy that is geared towards them, adding that this document is designed to help young people advance.

University of the West Indies Cave Hill campus Professor Dwayne Devonish said a lot of research went into preparing the document. He said hundreds of young people were screened to make the document reflective of the needs and aspirations of the youth.

Devonish said even the male and female wardens at the Government Industrial School were interviewed.

Some of the priority areas of the draft policy include: employment and work, education and training, entreprenuership, housing and land ownership and youth advocacy and empowerment. (SB)
