The Barbados Fire Service rescued a 20-year-old man from a well, about 35 feet, at Clarke’s Road, Hothersal Turning, St Michael, on Wednesday afternoon.
He was identified by his father as Jacquan Wharton, who was working in the district.
Acting station officer Martin Small said they received the report around 12:44 p.m. and dispatched a crew of 12 fire officers under the command of Divisional Officer Mayers.

“The officers quickly sprang into action and deployed one Arizona vortex and with the aid of ropes to rescue that male,” Small said, adding that they were also securing the area before leaving.
He advised people to be “very cautious around these wells, especially those where you can see significant structural damage to the covers”.
Wharton’s father Wendell Harris said his son was working with him at a house and left, as usual, to get something to eat. He said they used that track, but were unaware there was a well. A co-worker brought the unfortunate news.
Wharton was treated at the scene by the emergency medical technicians from the Ambulance Service and a relieved Harris said he sustained scratches and bruises. (SAT)
