Triathletes Matthew Wright and Niel Skinner can make history for Barbados with the country’s first ever medal in the multi-sport race at the Central American and Caribbean Games (CAC) in San Salvador, El Salvador.
On July 5, the two Barbadians will contest the men’s triathlon individual final at Costa del Sol among a field of 31 triathletes.
Both Wright and Skinner have identified specific goals which they intend to achieve with expert execution.
The 31-year-old Wright, who is based in Cardiff, Wales, has firmly set his sights on a medal position, hopefully gold, but has admitted that it will be no mean feat, given the strength of the competition.
“I want to be on the podium, and the top step will be even better, but the Mexicans are extremely strong and will be hard to beat. I am definitely very fit, and the form is great. I have just finished two very high level and intense European Cup races where I faced very high level races, and I was right in the mix,” said Wright who is enjoying a promising season with five out of six international race finishes for the season.
