A match that started with much promise ended horribly wrong for West Indies yesterday.
After clinching an unlikely win in the first One-day International against the No. 1 side in the world last Wednesday, expectations were high that the Windies could achieve the unthinkable and steal a rare series victory off them.
After another purposeful bowling effort led by Guyanese off-spinner Kevin Sinclair and local favourite Jason Holder meant they had to chase 213 to win, but the Caribbean side produced another batting horror show and sunk to a depressing 50-run loss in the rain-hit second ODI against New Zealand.
Before the Power Play was over, West Indies crashed to 27-6, and they appeared in danger of being dismissed for their lowest total in an ODI before Yannic Cariah, playing his second ODI, and Alzarri Joseph, batting at No. 10, shared 85 for the ninth wicket to enable them to avoid that ignominy. (AR)
