WI confident of series win

Exciting all-rounder Romario Shepherd says losing by one-run against England in the second Betway Twenty20 International has made the West Indies hugely confidence about winning the five-match cricket series at Kensington Oval.

In a nail-biting contest at the region’s mecca on Sunday night, Shepherd and left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein wowed spectators with an onslaught of power-hitting to put the West Indies within touching distance of consecutive wins in Barbados.

Their 72-run partnership was the highest ever for the ninth wicket in T20 international cricket but despite Hosein’s three consecutive sixes off Saqib Mahmood in a dramatic, tension-filled final over, the Windies fell just short, leaving the series level at 1-1.

“For us, it is a very big confidence booster to know that we bat this deep. Sometimes you lose games and you improve and sometimes you win and improve, but last night [Sunday] I think that was a game where we lost but improved in our batting at the back end,” Shepherd, who made a career-best 44 from 28 balls said in a press conference yesterday.
