Director of the Barbados Meteorological Services, Sabu Best, says the island remains on alert for possible flooding as several inches of rain were recorded in western and central districts. He also urged motorists to exercise caution when travelling.
A flash-flood warning is in effect for western districts, while a watch remains in effect for northern, northeastern, central and southwestern districts.
A flash-flood warning is issued when rapid flooding due to heavy or excessive rainfall in a short period of time (generally less than six hours) is occurring or is imminent in the warning area.
The InterTropical Convergence Zone, in combination with a low-level trough system, continues to affect Barbados.
Over the past 24 hours, between one to two inches of rainfall were recorded across parts of the island. Further accumulations of up to two inches are likely in these areas this afternoon.
Due to the already saturated nature of the soils, any additional rainfall is likely to cause flooding.
This alert is valid from noon and will be updated at 6 p.m. or sooner if conditions warrant, says the Barbados Meteorological Services. (PR/SAT)
