UWI workers seeing the money

The Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) says it is celebrating a victory as the management of the University of the West Indies (UWI) Cave Hill Campus began the process of paying promised monies to staff yesterday.

Following a work stoppage on Wednesday, general secretary of the BWU Toni Moore reported that yesterday members at the campus were calling in to confirm that “monies that are the lump sum that was committed to be paid by UWI had indeed hit the bank accounts of some, and that specifically will be those who share the same bank account as the university”.

“So, every expectation is that the money will roll out to others quickly. The Barbados Workers’ Union is pleased to record this yet another victory.

“Moreover, to the members of the university division, we say solidarity forever. Your unity is a strength, and we look forward to the university committing to the remaining payments. (AH)
