Update: Flash Flood Warning in effect for central districts

The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) has expanded its Flash Flood Warning to include the central part of the island, effective immediately until 6:00 PM today, Saturday, April 20th, 2024.

Heavy rains that caused flooding in northern districts earlier today have now shifted south. Rainfall accumulations of 40 to 75 millimeters are expected, raising concerns for:

Runoff from hills

Soil erosion on exposed land

Water pooling on roads and fields

Rising water levels in ponds and other bodies of water

Debris carried by fast-moving floodwaters

Flooding near hillsides and coastal roads

Traffic delays and potential road closures

Residents in both northern and central districts are urged to take precautions:

Follow instructions from the Department of Emergency Management (DEM).

Monitor updates from the BMS, DEM, and Government Information Service (GIS) for the latest information.

Stay informed through local media reports.

This Flash Flood Warning was updated at 3:40 PM on Saturday, April 20th, and may be terminated earlier if conditions improve. (BMS)
