A donation of two new ambulances to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) now takes the fleet to nine and with it comes the possibility of faster response times to the general public.
On Monday, representatives from the Maria Holder Memorial Trust handed over two fully-equipped ambulances, along with stretchers, safety vests, helmets and dispatcher headsets in a ceremony at the Emergency Ambulance Service’s headquarters in Wildey, St Michael.
“The problem is we had a total of seven ambulances, so you have to remember that certain times ambulances have to go in for servicing so that it takes away one or two at a time,” said Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Wellness with responsibility for the QEH, Dr Sonia Browne.
“This is why the [medical consultant at the Emergency Ambulance Service Dr David Byer] was saying that we would love to get a fleet up to ten to 12 ambulances . . . . So this addition of the fleet certainly will help to offset some of the waiting times,” she said.
Browne said through training, they also hoped to address the “incorrect” use of the service. (Nation News)
