Tourism development caution

Minister of Tourism Senator Lisa Cummins and Member of Parliament for St Michael South Kirk Humphrey expressed those sentiments yesterday during the official opening of Nautilus Ocean Suites and Bayside Bistro, Upper Bay Street, St Michael.

During her address, Cummins said they were working on a new law that would address issues such as the safety of turtles.

“We are preparing to finalise new sustainable development tourism legislation that will include a suite of new measures including things like lighting and leaving the chairs on the beach because that will have an impact on the turtle project.

“So if you have the privilege of owning property in such a beautiful location as this, we want to make sure that you also take your responsibility seriously for sustainability and contributing positively to mitigating the impact of the climate crisis in a small island like Barbados,” Cummins said.

Meanwhile, during his address, Humphrey applauded Chief Executive Officer of the group Edwin Cho and his team for the improvements they made to the area and the beachside. (TG)
