In a case described as one where there was no honour among thieves, Chad Kemar Kadeem Bourne was ordered to compensate a homeowner when he was sentenced by the No. 4 Supreme Court.
Bourne, 26, of Parish Land, Christ Church, had pleaded guilty, during an earlier Session of the Continuous Sittings, to entering June Gall’s home on March 21, 2013, and stealing a chain, four pairs of earrings, five rings, a bangle, bracelet and an anklet belonging to her, as well as a pendant and $200 belonging to Carol Rowland.
Justice Laurie-Ann Smith-Bovell ordered Bourne to pay $7 000 in compensation to Gall and $3 000 to Rowland, all by July 31, 2023, with an alternative of one year, 310 days in prison in default.
She also sentenced him to one year, 310 days in prison but suspended that term for three years. The judge told Bourne she had considered five years to be an appropriate starting point for his sentence. (HLE)
