Students’ mental health ‘critical’

Government’s plans to reform the educational system will be hard to accomplish if no attention is paid to the social, emotional and mental health of students.

This is the view of Professor of counsellor education at Pennsylvania State University, College of Education Dr Julia Green Bryan.

She said although many strides had been made since she started as a guidance counsellor in Barbados, more could be done to improve the system as many children were still struggling mentally.

“I am excited to see some of the changes that were made and that there are more counsellors at the schools, but hopefully there will be even more. This is where the resources need to go because post-pandemic, kids are struggling all over the world, including here. (TG)
