Storming victory

The queen of the Garrison Savannah, Celestial Storm, returned to her winning ways in a breathtaking home-stretch three-way battle, thundering home on the outside to defeat Trini Aviator and Terrain yesterday.

Sent off as the overwhelming favourite, the seven-year-old chestnut mare wore down the early leaders in a tense stretch battle in front of a boisterous crowd to claim victory in the Boxing Day Stakes And Trophy over 1 570 metres for three-year-olds and older horses.

Celestial Storm, owned and trained by Roger Parravicino, got an excellent ride by apprentice Delano Lopez, who shared riding honours on the Boxing Day At The Races Raceday card with N’Rico Prescod as both landed a treble.

Terrain went to the lead on leaving the starting chute, at which time Gandalf’s jockey, Antonio Whitehall, was unseated.

Tracking Terrain were Trini Aviator, Rising Star, Celestial Storm and Stealin, who took the field into the paddock bend. (LY)
