The dismantling of the light towers at the National Stadium is expected to take three days.
The Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation – CBC and a telecommunications provider also have to remove antennas from two of the towers.
Work commenced at the Waterford, St Michael facility on Wednesday.
It forced the relocation of several groups which are based there as part of the National Sports Council’s Summer Camp programme.
Football and Boxing will now take place at the nearby Barbados Lumber Company Playing Field, athletics will be held at the Blenheim Playing Field and cycling at the Garfield Sobers Gymnasium.
The first ever cricket match under lights was held at the National Stadium in 1981. It was a Nation event, organised by the late cricket commentator Tony Cozier.
In November 2014, Emera, the parent company of Barbados Light and Power, donated half a million dollars to replace the lights.
