Slow uptake of paediatric vaccines

Vaccinations for children between five and 11 have been slow, says one of the coordinators of the National Vaccination Programme, Dr Elizabeth Ferdinand.

She gave that update yesterday, about two months after Barbados began administering doses of the paediatric Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for children ages five to 11.

“We only have the children’s vaccine which will be out soon but things have been slow,” she said.

She also said uptake for the remaining vaccines had a similar fate.

“All we have is Sinopharm vaccine and Johnson & Johnson for adults and we are hoping to get more adult Pfizer but at the moment we don’t have any,” she added.

Ferdinand said the goal was to visit schools after permission is granted. (TG)
