Shoppers find ways to cope with rising food prices

Buy what you can afford. That is how some shoppers are keeping food on their tables.

With food prices rising globally, the small developing state of Barbados has also faced the same fate as others.

Matthew Smith was recently in Massy Warrens, St Michael, searching the almond and oat milk aisle. The athlete said he needed to keep fit but trying to buy healthy foods could be difficult.

“As a footballer, I have to keep in shape and eat healthy. I look at brands and types so one version of almond milk would be more expensive than another. One thing I do is buy fibre rather than sugary cereals . . . a box of Weetabix I find is affordable and good for you,” he said.
