Sargassum hits Barbados’ South Coast beaches

Sargassum seaweed continues to invade the coastlines of Barbados.

Yesterday, a large amount of the algae, which usually accumulates in large heaps on the East Coast, was spotted on the South Coast beaches, particularly in the areas of Accra and Rockley in Christ Church.

One beachgoer said it had to wash ashore overnight as over the weekend the beach was free and clear of seaweed.

Here, the view from a restaurant on the South Coast shows the seaweed on Accra Beach. (BW)
