Sada sets new national record in 200m

Sada Williams set a new Barbados national record in the senior women’s 200 metres, on Saturday night at the GC Foster Classic in Spanish Town, Jamaica.

The time of 22.59 seconds (wind +1.5), erased the 22.61 she clocked as a schoolgirl, running for Harrison College at the 2016 Powerade Barbados Secondary Schools’ Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.

The new record also represents a personal best for Williams who has not done many competitive 200 metres races in the ensuing years.

Instead, her focus was on recovering from hamstring injuries and then the 400 metres, where she has covered herself in individual glory as the Commonwealth Games champion and two-time World Championships bronze medallist.

Williams led the sweep of MVP athletes. She was followed home by Natasha Morrison, a distant second in 23.53 and young Tina Clayton in 23.65, both season’s best times. (SAT)
