Ross, Ashlyn rule track

Distance runner Ashlyn Simmons and rising talent Ross Waldron made the Louis Lynch Championships their personal stage when the event was held at the Usain Bolt Stadium on Saturday.

Talons’ Waldron, the son of former Barbados batsman Horace Waldron, darted to 48.06 in the preliminaries better than the required 48.25 to earn a Carifta ticket in the 400 for Under-20 boys.

Waldron went even faster in the final finishing in 47.71 secs.

With the welcomed return of spectators in the stands, 14-year-old Simmons showed tremendous finishing power to capture the Under-17 girls 1500 in a CARIFTA qualifying time of 4:58.41 bettering the required 5:02.00. She has already qualified for the 800. (KB)
