Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley is assuring Barbadians that Government is not sitting on its hands when it comes to long overdue road rehabilitation.
Speaking at the ground-breaking for the Roadworks Global Project at Carmichael Road, St George, yesterday, she said some roads have been on the cards for repairs for decades, but her administration was intent on addressing the issue.
“The truth is that after 2008, this country, because of financial circumstances, did not complete repairs on a number of major roads or minor roads. We went through a period where very little was done to our road infrastructure, so much so that Barbados fell eight positions in its infrastructure rankings to 30th place between 2013 and 2017. At the same time, we fell 16 places to No. 49 in terms of its quality of roads. This Government upon assuming office determined that we needed to engage with our transport sector and our road sector as a matter of urgency,” said Mottley.
She conceded that the pressure on Government to deliver will be great. (CLM)
