Roach level with Holding as WI eye victory

NORTH SOUND – Exemplary pacer Kemar Roach snatched his tenth five-wicket haul in Tests to put the hosts on the verge of victory in the first Test against Bangladesh yesterday in Antigua.

In the process, Roach claimed a record 50th wicket at the Vivian Richards Cricket Ground, and pulled alongside Michael Holding at 249 wickets on the all-time West Indies wicket-takers list.

With the Bangladeshis rallying on 232 for six in their second innings in the final session after finding themselves sinking on 109 for six, the 33-year-old Barbadian pacer proved the Windies’ hero once again, taking three of the last four wickets to fall to send the visitors tumbling to 245 all out.

Roach finished with five for 53 from 24.5 overs – his fourth five-wicket haul against the Tigers and third at the venue – and now finds himself on the brink of becoming only the sixth West Indies bowler to pass the cherished 250-wicket mark.
