David Omar Best made a “serious mistake” which will lead to “some serious consequences”, his lawyer told the No. 4 Supreme Court.
But attorney Dennis Headley urged the court not to be “unduly harsh” on the convicted rapist, saying a starting point of five years would be appropriate.
However, Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Alliston Seale argued that rape was the most serious of the sexual offences and the defence’s suggested starting point was “preposterous”. He said Best’s sentence should start between ten and 12 years.
The two attorneys were making their submissions on sentence when Best, of Kendall Hill, Christ Church, reappeared in the No. 4 Supreme Court. (HLE)
