Mighty Barbados Pride, the kings of regional first-class cricket, have been beaten.
Yesterday at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, despite a defiant hundred by Test captain Kraigg Brathwaite, were beaten by five wickets by Guyana Harpy Eagles.
Faced with a deficit of 224, a Pride side including eight players with Test experience, could only manage 291 in their second innings.
Brathwaite compiled 111 but no one else reached 50, with Roston Chase (15), Shamarh Brooks (13) and Jonathan Carter (6), falling cheaply for the second time in the third-round match. The 29-year-old Brathwaite was his customary obdurate self, batting a shade over six hours, and was ninth man out.
Opener Shayne Moseley cracked 48 with nine fours, Raymon Reifer got 27 and Shane Dowrich, 24, but the defending champions failed to conjure up the batting effort required. Shai Hope, who made 119 in the first innings, fell for just five. (CMC/MK)
