Police warn of misinformation following recent shooting

The Barbados Police Service has issued a statement about recent social media postings surrounding Monday’s shooting death.

The following is the statement:

It has been drawn to our attention the frequency and proliferation of social media postings, which feature information that is misleading and has no factual content.  At times, these posts are false. The authors of such postings set out to sensationalise stories, issues, and events that mislead readers and create a feeling of uneasiness amongst the general public.

The Barbados Police Service is advising the public to seek their information from credible and reliable sources. One specific example is comments circulating relating to the shooting incident, which occurred at Four Roads, St. Philip on Monday, June 19th, 2023. Social Media postings suggest a set of circumstance particularly alleging that certain persons are involved which at this stage police has no evidence to corroborate.

Any person(s) having knowledge of this matter should contact Police Emergency 211, Crime Stoppers at 1800-TIPS (8477) or the nearest Police Station.

We reassure the public that we will continue to update you as to the progress of our investigations. -END-
