PM wants City at centre again

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has vowed to return Bridgetown to pride of place, disclosing that several projects earmarked for The City are at an advanced stage, including the repurposing of a number of old buildings.

Speaking at the University of the West Indies’ City Campus launch at the historic Mutual Building on Lower Broad Street on Thursday night, Mottley said she was intent on restoring the lustre of the capital, overseeing its evolution into a 24-hour economic hub.

She said plans to develop the old Treasury Building into housing solutions for young people were under way.

“It is not just about business, but it is about people being able to live in Bridgetown, work in Bridgetown, govern in Bridgetown. The Treasury Building has already gone out to tender for a request for proposals because we see that building as integral to the process of young people being able to live in ’Town again. (CLM)
