Plea to pass on heritage

Not enough Barbadians are teaching the youth about the country’s history, says cultural activist and event producer Andisa “Aja” Andwele.

That deficit, he said, could be linked to some adults’ ignorance of their past, so the hope was to educate more people through the Heritage Fair held at the Rock Hall Freedom Park, St Thomas, yesterday.

“We are not transferring the information to them because we don’t have it ourselves. Therefore, we hope that the events today will drive home the historical aspect of who we are as a people because that historical aspect of who we are must be told not only to this generation, but to the younger generation.

“So it’s not just about coming to have fun, but you are coming to have fun within a space filled with information about our ancestors,” Aja said. (TG)
