Plea for more bite in dog fight

Chief inspector at the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Wayne Norville, is pleading with the relevant authorities to equip the Animal Control Centre to deal with reports of uncontrollable animals.

He was speaking in the wake of 62-year-old Elton Hall, of Maynards Ridge, St Peter, who was attacked by two dogs last weekend. He underwent surgery at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and is recovering, but is fearful of returning to the area.

Police confirmed reports of the incident and said they were actively investigating the matter, but no charges have been laid to date.

Norville said the Animal Control Centre was under-equipped to deal with threats and challenges posed by some animals, and was not even functioning at 40 per cent. The veteran animal inspector said he wanted this addressed urgently, adding he had reached out to successive governments but to no avail. (RA)
