Perfect balance in Budget, says Bradshaw

Deputy Prime Minister Santia Bradshaw says Government found the perfect balance in the Financial Statement and Budgetary Proposals, especially coming out of the two-year fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking as the debate neared a close in the House of Assembly Wednesday night, she said she was impressed with how Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley was able to pinpoint the important areas which needed to be addressed, without hurting Barbadians who had already been burdened by the happenings in the last 24 months.

“It was a very balanced Budget. It was reasonable for the public to question what was going to be in it because we had been trying to grapple with all the things that had confronted us as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. We spent more than we ever anticipated we were going to have to spend to keep people alive and to ensure there would be stability in the country,” Bradshaw said.

The MP for the St Michael South East noted that in the midst of an International Monetary Fund programme, Government had bucked the trend and had chosen to bring on people in some areas where it would have been advised otherwise. She cited the decision to employ people to clean the highways and byways. (BA)
