Parties promise land tax ease

It seems that if both Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley and Opposition Leader Bishop Joseph Atherley get their way, Barbadians could see a massive ease in land tax.

In fact, Atherley went so far as to say he would scrap it altogether.

Speaking at the Barbados Labour Party’s platform launch for the January 19 General Election on Monday night from Montgomery Pasture in St Michael North, Mottley pulled a page from the 2022 manifesto slated to release in a matter of days, revealing that 39 388 Barbadians would not have to pay land tax again once the Bees were re-elected.

She added that another 42 000, while still having to pay land tax, would do so at a reduced rate, but stopped there, noting that further details would come in the manifesto. (BA/TG)
