Old Year’s parties, political meetings get the nod

Approval has been granted for six Old Year’s Night parties to be held in Barbados today.

In addition, the authorities are allowing the political parties three “larger events” before the January 19 general election, which will be capped at a capacity of 500 people and under the watchful eye of the COVID-19 Monitoring Unit.

This was revealed yesterday by head of the COVID-19 Monitoring Unit, Ronald Chapman.

During a nationally televised address, he also revealed that applications continue to roll into the Unit and the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) for party events over the next few days.

“In the last week, we would have had conversations with the promoters and the NCF, which is the largest promoter in Barbados, for the conducting of approved events. We’ve had a number of applications and we anticipate others will be applying,” he added. (BA)
