Macalister Lovell was not fooling around when he left home on April 1 to purchase a lottery ticket.
Today, he is $685 000 richer for making that wise decision.
The 63-year-old man collected his winning cheque yesterday from officials of the Barbados Lottery, who presented him at Pat’s Place, Water Street, Christ Church, where he purchased the winning Mega 6 ticket.
He told the Weekend Nation that he was a regular player and on that day he joked with his buddy about buying a ticket.
“I just wake up that morning and decided with my buddy leh we go and buy some tickets today because today is All Fools Day. Maybe they gine fool we today but it end up they ain’t fool we – we win the big one,” he laughed.
He said it was a quick pick but “we just analyse a couple numbers and change one and it worked”.
Two days after purchasing the ticket Lovell said his “buddy” told him to check the tickets.
“I check them and I tell he everything here so the feeling was great.” The winning numbers were 8, 10, 14, 26, 29, 33.
The father of three who is a public worker said he intended to build a house for his children.
Vendor Marcia Shepherd who sold the wining ticket said when Lovell informed her that he had won she too was overjoyed.
She said it was the first time that Pat’s Place had sold a jackpot winner. (MB)
