New criteria for discharge from COVID-19 isolation

Starting September 1, people in COVID-19 isolation will now be discharged after seven days instead of ten.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness says this period will be from the date of the positive PCR test, but they must be asymptomatic, or showing improving symptoms three days prior to discharge.

However, if there are symptoms of COVID-19, isolation must be extended for the full ten-day period, but no further testing will be required to exit isolation.

After discharge “the individual is strongly advised to wear a mask when in the presence of others until ten complete days have elapsed”.

The requirements are slightly different for those who work in healthcare facilities.

People who work in nursing homes, senior citizens’ homes and prisons will be required to have a negative rapid test after day seven in order to return to work, or spend a full ten days in isolation before being discharged. (PR/SAT)
