Road tennis grand master Julian “Michael Jackson” White put on an exhibition of sheer class to stop a determined Dwaine Hope 21-9, 19-21, 21-12 when the Barbados Road Tennis Open round of 16 matches climaxed at Belfield on Sunday night.
White, who qualified for a pay day of $2 000 and advanced to meet Kerry “TC” Francis in Thursday’s quarterfinals at Silver Hill, was close to his invincible best as he dispelled talk about injuries limiting his chances of another road tennis crown.
Those rumours seemed sound when school teacher Hope jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the first game.
Assuming his crouching style where both his knees seemed to be scraping the court, White motored ahead before Hope locked at nine. Unbelievably, Hope never won another point as he was totally outplayed by White. (KB)
