Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Charles Griffith has urged local and Caribbean administrators to come together and create more opportunities for young people aspiring to play sport at the highest level.
Griffith said there was too much talent in the Caribbean for young people to be starved of opportunities to play sport and he appealed to sports administrators to find ways to improve the situation.
He said the need for more regional age group competitions was more urgent now because the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic caused young sportspeople between the ages of 11 and 15 to miss several opportunities.
“I attended the CARIFTA Aquatic Championships on two nights, and I was amazed by the dominance of the 11-12 age group swimmers for Barbados,” he said during a courtesy call from Barbados Pride and West Indies Test captain Kraigg Brathwaite this week. (AR)
