Don’t ask for a fine if you can’t pay it.
That was the advice of Justice Pamela Beckles as she dealt with a self-confessed gunman who had paid a mere fraction of his $25 000 fine with only two months more to go.
“Don’t ask for a fine if you can’t pay the fine. Just go and do the time,” she said yesterday as she dealt with Anthony Malik Raheem Callender in the No. 5 Supreme Court. He was absent and his surety brought in a medical certificate.
It was on August 16, 2022, that Callender, 25, of Maxwell Hill, Christ Church, was fined $25 000 in six months or three years in prison for having a 9mm-calibre Beretta semi-automatic pistol on April 14, 2017. (HLE)
