Logistical issues slowing down rebuilding

Government’s efforts to rebuild and repair the hundreds of homes destroyed during the passage of Hurricane Elsa earlier this year are being hamstrung by a litany of logistical challenges.

According to Minister of Housing Dr William Duguid, the chief of these issues is access to land as a number of the people who lost their homes did not own the land upon which they were built.

He also disclosed that the global shipping challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic were also taking a toll on the availability of construction materials and tools.

Speaking at a brief ceremony at Work Hall, St Philip, to hand over the keys to Shamika Alleyne to her newly rebuilt home, one of 13 completed, Duguid called for patience from others waiting in line, making it clear that Government was determined to overcome the logistical stumbling blocks. (CLM)
