As the holiday season approaches crime prevention officer, Inspector Stephen Griffith, is urging people to pay more attention to their personal safety and securing their homes.
He pointed to the use of desolate ATMs or those where people are loitering, leaving many packages in unattended vehicles and women carrying cellphones in their back pockets.
“A lot of people sometimes travel with too much money on them. Never travel with anything you are not prepared to lose, and once you follow that you would not provide the opportunity to be targeted for criminal activity,” he said yesterday during the Criminal Justice Research and Planning Unit’s (CJRPU) Crime Prevention Fair at the Police Sports Club, Weymouth, St Michael.
“People also lapse a lot in terms of leaving their homes unsecured, leaving without checking their homes, their wrought iron bars and sometimes not locking the locks or having inappropriate locks on doors. However, wherever possible, we advise that if you can, use a level of electronic security to your set-up and your premises.” (Nation News)
