Barbados’ most recent amendment to its public mask mandate was done to reduce the possibility of citizens having criminal records.
So said Minister of Home Affairs Wilfred Abrahams, who also gave the assurance that police will not be running around looking to ticket people for not wearing masks.
Abrahams, who was Acting Attorney General last week when the mandate was issued, was speaking in the House of Assembly yesterday as it passed a resolution to re-engage the Emergency Management Act, which gives Government the legal right to enforce the current protocols and regulations to mitigate against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Conviction
He said it was necessary to inform Barbadians that the previous directive meant that any person arrested and charged with not wearing a mask could have had a conviction placed on their record. (BA)
