Jonathan Jones books spot in 400 semis

National record holder Jonathan Jones is safely through to the semi-finals of the men’s 400 metres event at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

The 23 year-old clocked 45.46 seconds to finish second behind world and Olympic record holder, South African Wayde Van Niekark (45.18), in heat one of the one lap race.

Great Britain’s Alex Haydock-Wilson was third in a season’s best 45.62 seconds.

The semi-finals will be contested on Wednesday.

Fellow quarter-miler Sada Williams is scheduled to run in heat three of the women’s event at 3 p.m. (AGB)
